Getting Plastered in the New Year!

Before - fitting the plasterboard

After a great Christmas break without any labouring G was chomping at the bit to get started again.  Having built the loft, fitted the staircase and fixed plasterboard to the walls the next massive job to do was to plaster the whole lot.  Its a large expanse of wall with lots of different faces, slopes and angles.  G is self taught plaster and been improving loads.  It can be a stressful job as when you start plastering a wall you have to finish the whole wall in one go so there are no joins.  The plaster goes hard quickly so you are constantly under time pressure.  If its a large wall it helps to have someone else mixing the plaster so that's where I come in.  We have been plastering now for over a week and we are only about a third done.  Every night when G comes home from work he does a little more.  Posting this reminds me of when we were painting the outside of the house and it went on for ever.  Plastering photos don't make very interesting viewing but I have included some one showing G standing on the ladder that he has balanced over the stairs in order to plaster the stair well.

After - Plastering

  1. The house is looking fab!! You def should be doing this full-time and give up the day jobs as Jenny said in previous post! Not sure how good the plastering would be after mid-week champers though ;) Really good evening last night annie - New Year champagne cocktails went down a treat - we should have taken a pic to put on your blog! Happy painting on Saturday after the training x

  2. My Secret is out! There was I trying to make out that I was a diligint workers mate mixing plaster and now the truth is out that I am a lush! Drinking mid week champers with my mate - really ejoyed it - at least G got to join us at the end even if it was to take me home. Looking forward to the Bike/run tomorrow before just hope it stops raining! x

  3. Just LOOKING at G balancing on the ladder gives me the shivers. I wish I were that brave and balanced! I love how he's always got a smile on his face too :) How long is your bike/run thingy? I've just started dipping my toe in on running. Have a great weekend everybody!

  4. Your comment made me laugh about G always having a smile on his face. He is incredibly focussed when he is working and normally has a very serious face on him which looks awful on the photos. I have to cajole him into looking at the camera and smiling for the photo. Its even harder when he is plastering as its quite tricky and working against the clock. Tomorrow Mogsy is running and I am supporting her on my bike. 16 Miles!! Glad I am on the bike - she is training for the London Marathon. Impressed you have started :-) hope have a fab weekend x
